Behavior & Pain Management in Levittown

Helping Kids Feel Calm & Comfortable During Dental Visits

At Little Smiles of Levittown, we are committed to providing comfortable and compassionate dental care to our young patients. It is common for children to feel nervous when they require dental care, and some dental problems can heighten this fear and anxiety. Dr. Lee and our staff use a variety of techniques for behavior and pain management in Levittown to meet the unique needs of each child.

Does your child have anxiety at the dentist’s office? Call (516) 217-8910 to learn how we can help. We also serve patients across Nassau County and the surrounding areas.

Behavior Management Techniques

Pediatric dental training includes education in the areas of child development and child psychology. Dr. Lee and our staff are knowledgeable about behavior management techniques that are effective for helping children relax and trust us to provide the care they need. We use a combination of routine and more advanced behavior management strategies to meet the specific needs of each patient.

Managing Pain & Anxiety

Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is a mild and safe sedative that is used to help kids and adults relax during dental procedures. The gas is mixed with oxygen and administered with a mask which is placed over the child’s nose and inhaled. It takes about five minutes for the nitrous oxide to work, and allows the child to remain awake but feel happy, calm, and relaxed during the procedure.

Nitrous oxide may be recommended for kids when:

  • Multiple dental procedures are needed
  • Remaining still is challenging
  • They have fear or anxiety
  • They have special needs

After the dental procedure is finished, the gas is tuned off and the child will be given oxygen for a few minutes to clear out the remaining gas. Nitrous oxide is the safest method of anesthesia because it has no residual effects after the gas wears off. Your child can resume normal activities right after the visit to our office.
