IV Sedation and General Anesthesia
As specialists in pediatric dentistry, we understand that positive early dental experiences are an important part of lifelong dental health and we always strive to provide a more comfortable experience for your child. Little Smiles of Levittown is proud to partner with board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists to offer IV Sedation and general anesthesia in the familiarity of our child-friendly office, no hospital visit required. IV Sedation uses medications to allow the patient to remain calm and relaxed while receiving dental treatment.
During the procedure, the anesthesiologist will carefully monitor your child as we perform all needed dental care. Sedation ensures that your child remains still, feels at ease throughout the procedure, and has no memory of the treatment.
IV Sedation can be helpful in treating children with:
- High levels of anxiety
- Special needs
- Extensive dental work
- Surgical dental procedures
What to Expect
Before treatment, your child’s doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of IV sedation and general anesthesia and help you decide if this is a good choice for your child.
If your child is going to receive IV sedation or general anesthesia, the anesthesiologist and your child’s pediatric dentist will be available to answer any questions you may have prior to the procedure. On the day of treatment, we will be carefully monitoring your child before, during, and after treatment to make sure the sedation dissipates safely. Following treatment, we will provide additional treatment information and instructions for care following the sedation. Post-treatment, monitoring by parents at home is crucial. After such procedures, patients are generally advised to rest, making it perfect for children to relax at home and return to their usual activities the following day.
