Dental Care for 6 to 11 Years FAQs

Levittown Pediatric Dentist Answering All Your Questions

Between the ages of 6 and 11 years old, kids have a mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth. Problems with the alignment of the jaw and teeth may become evident at this time, as the primary teeth are growing in. At Little Smiles of Levittown, Dr. Lee monitors the growth and development of the adult teeth and may recommend a visit to an orthodontist, if needed. In addition, we provide comprehensive dental care for children aged 6 to 11 years old to keep your child’s teeth healthy and strong.

Are you looking for a dentist for your school-aged child? Call (516) 217-8910 for an appointment.

  • What should I do to ensure my child maintains good dental and oral health?

In order to keep your child’s teeth healthy, continue with visits to the pediatric dentist every six months throughout their primary school years. Dr. Lee will perform a thorough examination, and X-rays are used to monitor the health of the teeth and identify any potential problems. Panoramic radiographs are sometimes used for orthodontic evaluations to view the joints and position of the adult teeth that are still developing.

  • How can I help prevent my child from getting cavities?
    • Teach your child about good oral hygiene
    • Reinforce good nutrition and healthy food choices
    • Help with brushing and flossing until at least eight years of age
    • Continue with dental visits every six months for cleanings and exams
  • What are dental sealants, and should my child have them?

We recommend sealants to help prevent cavities. Sealants are a protective coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth to protect the tiny grooves where bacteria can cause cavities. The procedure is completely painless and seals these small grooves to prevent food particles and bacteria from causing cavities.

  • How can I help prevent my child from sustaining mouth injuries?

At this age, children are beginning to participate in sports, including contact sports such as football, soccer, and hockey. These sports may result in serious injuries. Mouth guards can help prevent injuries to the teeth, as well as concussions and serious brain injuries. At Little Smiles of Levittown, we offer custom mouth guards and emergency dental care for children aged 6 to 11 years old.

Please call (516) 217-8910 for an appointment for anything from routine exams and cleanings to emergency dental care.
